Day 7, I made it!!!! Wow, seven whole days without social media. And while it may not seem like that long of a time frame in the past seven days I've had a chance to reflect on how I'd like to utilize social media in a more productive way ( which I go into greater detail about in the video below.) Ultimately this past week has been a real back and forth about my feelings on social media. While I  believe it has it's uses I think some practices on social media can be unhealthy. In the end no matter what your 'go to' reason for social media is just like any good snack food, consume in moderation. I think this little experiment showed me that it's really just all about balance. I believe that if we can straddle that line between sharing great content with one another while being actively engaged IRL than we'll have a better online and all around life experience.

Even though I'm not very far along in this journey it's actually getting easier. I for sure thought I'd be struggling without scrolling my Facebook and Instagram feeds to start and end my days. But it's actually pretty freeing. For instance, I was out to dinner and actually had conversations, found out what was going on in people's lives and even paid attention to the basketball game on at the bar we were at. I think what I'm starting to realize is that it's nice not to be tethered by our devices. It almost brings back this state of normalcy, back to how things use to be.

Alright guys, so here we go with a recap of events from day one of no social media. So last night I deleted Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Snap Chat off of my phone. Not gonna lie, that was pretty hard to to do. I kept clicking open my phone to go into those app so as crutch I just kept checking my email on my phone.  But after an hour or so stopped wanting to obsessively check my feeds and went on to watch some tv, play a game on my phone and cap off my evening with some reading ( I'm int he middle of Trevor Noah's Born A Crime, highly recommend).

Remember those days as a kid when you'd be all excited about a new toy hitting the stores?  Anything from Legos to Barbies, well those days are long gone my friends.  Welcome to a new world of toys; one that includes an action figure of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg!  There is nothing quite like being the head of a company worth billions of dollars and no better way to commemorate that then having your own action figure!

So who thought of this genius idea that I wanna "like" a thousand times?  MIC which stands for “Made in China” are the one's behind the action figure.  The company also created a Steve Jobs figure a while back and have now turned to Zuckerberg. What is their reasoning behind this you may ask?  Well the company believes this is,

“next greatest action figure for tech nerds and really admired the man who is responsible for connecting over 500 million people across the world, helping Egypt’s protesters to spark an uprising and becoming the youngest billionaire and [Time] ‘Person of the Year.’”

So will you guys be picking one up??

With The Social Network hitting theaters are over this weekend is it too soon for another movie about social networking to make a splash?  Not in the case of Catfish a documentary...or is it a mocumentary about Nev Schulman, a New York photographer who ends up becoming pen pals with 10 year old Abby after she sends him a painting that she did of one of his photographs.  Shortly after Nev begins to connect with other member of her family, specifically her older  half sister Meg.  They begin an online romance that Nev can no longer bare and decides that he MUST meet her face to face.  And that all I'm going to say.  While this plot may seem contrived what lies beneath the surface will leave you stunned!  Check out the trailer here!
